You've found a problem with every part of this move: the rent, the job market, even the timing. You could just say you think I shouldn't go.
That's not quite what I meant. I'm not saying you shouldn't go. I'm saying your plan depends on nearly everything going right.
That sounds like a careful way of calling it unrealistic.
The goal isn't unrealistic. Your margin for error is. You've budgeted for the flight and rent, but not a deposit, temporary accommodation, or a longer job search.
I can stay with Carla at first, and she says companies are hiring.
Possibly, but Carla offered her spare room for a couple of weeks, not indefinitely. And 'companies are hiring' isn't the same as having an offer.
So you don't believe I can make it work.
I believe you can. I just think you may be underestimating the cost and treating optimistic possibilities as confirmed arrangements.
You supported Daniel when he moved with less money than I have.
I supported him, but called his plan risky. He had citizenship, a signed contract, and somewhere to stay for two months. The situations aren't equivalent.
Maybe not, but whenever I mention the move, you list what could go wrong. That's difficult not to hear as opposition.
Fair enough. I can see why it sounds negative. But there's a difference between being cautious and being negative. Supporting you doesn't require me to pretend every detail is solid.
What would convince you that I'm prepared, then? Another six months of saving?
Not necessarily six. I'd want a complete budget, a backup if Carla's room isn't available, and a point at which you'd reconsider rather than keep spending.
Reconsider the move altogether?
Reconsider the timing or the first city, perhaps. Abandoning the idea is only one option, and not the one I'm recommending now.
All right. I still think you're more worried than you need to be, but I accept that you're questioning my preparation, not the move itself.
Exactly. I'd rather strengthen the plan now than act supportive and leave you with fewer choices later.
